Frequently Asked Questions
How does EmptyNet match a game with goalies?
EmptyNet compares the rink, hockey type, selected skill levels, availability, and eligibility with goalie preferences. Eligible goalies whose preferences match may receive an alert.
What should I include in a goalie request?
Include the rink, date, start time, hockey type, and skill level. Note whether the game is paid or volunteer and include any registration requirements; goalies can review the details before deciding whether to accept.
Can I offer goalie pay or post a volunteer game?
Yes. Managers may offer goalie pay or post a volunteer game with $0 goalie pay. Goalies can review the posted terms before accepting. Manager service and processing fees are separate from goalie pay, and any current fees are shown in the app before confirmation.
How do I look for a goalie in my area?
Browse the directory by state, then choose a regional or city guide for nearby rink references. When you post a game, select the actual rink and add the game details so eligible goalies can check whether it fits their preferences.
What does marking a game urgent do?
Urgent marks a game as time-sensitive and uses the urgent alert flow. An additional fee may apply and is shown before confirmation.
How old do you have to be to use EmptyNet?
EmptyNet users must be at least 16 years old; games default to 18+. A goalie age 16 or 17 may accept only a game marked 16+ with minor participation enabled and the manager’s required acknowledgment. The manager is responsible for confirming applicable age, consent, waiver, registration, and rink or league rules; EmptyNet does not verify those requirements.
How do EmptyNet skill levels map to A, B, C, D, and E leagues?
League classifications vary by rink, but EmptyNet uses these general mappings: Elite (A), Advanced (B), Intermediate (C), Recreational (D), and Beginner (E). These are guidelines, not league rules. Some leagues use sublevels such as C1. A C1 division may be listed as C while playing closer to B. EmptyNet lets goalies select multiple levels, so choose all levels you are comfortable and eligible to play—for example, both C and B when both fit. Managers should select the level that best represents the game and confirm any C1/B eligibility with the league or rink organizer.
